This section of my website badly needs an update (a key objective for Q3 2024 for sure…), so for now I’ll just say that I’ve spent most of my career on staff at magazines or digital media outlets, editing whatever needs editing, from 150-word book reviews to longer reported features.

These days, I am doing similar things as a freelance editor, and am also working with a couple of writers on their Substacks (brave new world). See below for a little more info about the publications where I worked full-time for a while and really got in there in terms of shaping the publication.

Editor-in-Chief, Sweet (Hearst Digital Media)

(Click above to watch Sweet’s sizzle reel.)

Sweet is the first-ever media brand to launch on Snapchat’s Discover platform. We used a combination of words, videos, photos, and animation to create daily editions that championed the people, places, and things that make life more interesting (across a variety of categories, from style and beauty to TV, movies, and design).

In 2017, Sweet was nominated for a Webby award for Best Editorial in mobile sites/apps, two Hearst awards for Digital Innovation and Best Use of Social Media, and built an audience of more than 18 million monthly readers and 6 million subscribers.

Senior Editor, Nylon & Nylon Guys

At Nylon and Nylon Guys, I edited the magazines' "Culture Club" and "Genius News" sections.

As senior editor, I grew Culture Club from a 2-page spread into an energetically packaged 8- to 10-page section that included the magazine's first-ever dedicated books page, travel stories, and a tech page that focused on the culture of life online.

Genius News covered the same range of topics as Culture Club from a male perspective, with the addition of fashion and food & spirits.

I also oversaw many of Nylon's special packages. Most dear to me is the magazine's 15th Anniversary feature, which called for lots of fun archival research.
